Meet the team who help run Leicestershire NEU
President
Craig Jones
Craig Jones is the President of the district. He leads the whole team and acts as chair in most democratic meetings. He also helps run half of our social media platforms.

District Secretaries
Tim Clamp
My name is Tim Clamp and I am the branch secretary and joint district secretary of Leicestershire NEU. I am also one of two lead reps for members in the Bradgate Education Partnership. I am passionate about ensuring workers within education are protected. I am here to support reps and to campaign for improved conditions for our members.
I am a full-time secondary music teacher operating without facility time. During the working day that is my priority. Urgent casework should be directed to your rep, lead rep or advice line.

Mahala
Mahala is one of the two joint district sectaries for Leicestershire NEU. She has also been president of the branch.
Marie-Sophie
Officer
My name is Marie. Originally I come from France but I have been living in the UK since 1994. I always wanted to be a teacher and when I was a trainee , I had absolutely no hesitation in joining the NUT. My whole family strongly believe in the collective power of unions so really it was an easy decision. I did not join just in case I needed it but because I cannot conceive of a working world devoid of solidarity.
I teach French and hold a TLR responsibility in a large secondary school in the county I became a rep for the mighty NEU at the very start of the Pay Up campaign and I have only recently taken the role as Lead Rep for the MAT we are a part of..
Through the NEU Pay up campaign I gradually became more involved at district and branch level. I have a keen interest in women equality issues and would like to engage more members in this. Women face many obstacles in Education whether it be maternity related issues, how the menopause is affecting members or the glass ceiling which still exists in an overwhelmingly feminised profession. I am also very interested in working class history and in particular in women activists.
Being part of the NEU is very important to me. We don’t always agree on everything but this makes us stronger.
The NEU is a truly organising union and am proud to be in it!
Our education system is on its knees. Teachers and Education staff feel battered. It is hard to keep going. Getting involved at branch level is a constructive way to restore hope and channel our collective energy to build a better future for our children. If you are a member, there are so many ways you can get involved . So, what are you waiting for ?
Taggy Elliot
New Professional and Young Worker Officer
Taggy represents around a third of our members within the district. She supports people new to teaching, or at the start of their career. She came to the last national NEU conference, and haven’t looked back since. She is also responsible for our social media.
Samuel Hilton
Campaigns and Membership Officer
I grew up in a Union family. It was understood that joining a union and fighting for a better future was simply part of being an adult. I am currently in the process of gathering the information we need to run effective campaigns next academic year. Since being in post I have supported the “pay up” campaign, and the general election campaign. We are currently working with local newspapers to see how we can raise school cuts as a political issue. If you want to get involved, please contact me at Sam.hilton@neu.org.uk
