My name is Jan Abbott

I am a teaching assistant at Ellistown Primary School in North West Leicestershire.

I am the NEU rep we have a small membership of teachers, support staff, and admin staff.

I became a rep primarily because I believe the NEU is the right Union for teaching staff and support staff. Both are educators and the NEU campaigns for better education

Support staff are the lowest paid staff, more and more “teaching” is expected of them and their salaries do not reflect the qualifications, or experience or the job they do .

This sense of in justice has driven me to support the teachers strikes to attend the reps training courses, attend branch meetings, go to support staff training and the most recent representing staff training.

All of these NEU run events have been excellent not only for the quality of the content and trainers but for meeting other reps; comparing notes and experiences; for finding  solutions.

I attended last year’s Conference in Bournemouth and was both moved and inspired  by the passion and drive of the speakers to campaign for change and better.

Together we are stronger. The more members we have, collectively we can make a difference.

The NEU supports support staff with cpd, information and campaigns.

My personal target is to recruit more members..

 midday supervisors, more support staff.

Anyone working in education deserves to belong to a  Union that will support them.

That is the NEU

Get involved, make a difference.
