- Scroll down to the bottom of the homepage, and click “login”
- If you already have an account, sign in. Otherwise hit “Create an account” and make yourself one.
- When you first make an account, you will only be able to comment on existing posts. Navigate to the post you want to comment on, scroll down and “leave reply” at the bottom of the post.
- If you want to make your own posts, you will need to ask one of the site admins to upgrade your account to “author”, which will allow you to create and edit your own posts and upload media.
- Once your account has been upgraded, you will gain access to the site dashboard. Tap on the “Posts” link to see existing posts and to add a new post.
- Click “add post” to create a new post
- Give your post a title.
- Write your text, and use the styles drop-down box to apply formatting to the text, either Heading 2 or Heading 3 to any titles or text you want to stand out, and Paragraph for everything else. These are preset to the correct size and font, so it looks consistent with other content on the website.
- Assign a category to your post, and add any relevant tags. These are very important for both site navigation and SEO, improving our site rankings in search engines etc. Select only one category per post, but you can add as many tags as you think fit the post.
- If you want to include images with your post, you will need to add media and upload any that you wish to use. Don’t forget to add:
- Alt text – displayed when visitors cannot see the image for some reason, and also when you mouse-over an image. Should describe the image concisely. Also useful for search engine SEO.
- Caption – appears in small writing under the image.
- Once your image has been uploaded, you can choose the size, the alignment of the image, and what happens when you click on it, and then insert it into your post
- Set a featured image for the post. This will be the main thumbnail you see on the homepage, in search engine listings, and will also be included when you share the post to whatsapp etc.
- Preview your post before publishing, checking the layout and formatting,
- Double-check you have tagged and added a category. When you are happy with your post, you can then publish it. At this point the post becomes visible for everyone to see, and search engines are notified of the new content.
- Once it is published, you can use the “share” button to push the content to Whatsapp and other social media. This will create a composite of the featured image, the post title, first few lines of text, plus a link back to the actual post on this website. This link-back will help increase footfall on our website and allow our members to discover all the other posts and information on here.
